2017 summary!

6 min read
Happy New Year everybody! Can you believe that there's already a new year upon us??? Where did 2017 go? Or 2016 for that matter...  Time flies when you're having fun...or it just flies when you get older.

Anyway, today is the 2nd of January, the day before my 29th birthday (speaking of getting older) and I've been meaning to write up a journal entry here on dA for quite some time. As you may have noticed, I've kinda disappeared. Last winter, I started using Ravelry way more seriously, and even though I'm not so fluent in using it yet, I've come to realise that knitting and yarn crafts in general really belongs more there than here on dA. Sad to say, really... But I highly suggest all of my yarn friends to join the forum parts of Ravelry. If I only knew better way back when I started this account and in the early Live-Action-Crafters days, then I would have pushed for a Ravelry group instead. When that's said, if any of my fellow LAC friends would like to get back together then I would be more than happy to get a group up and running over there. Using a forum makes conversations a lot better since everybody can't make the chats when things are happening.

So, yeah, I do consider dA as dead for me at this point. My lazy side can't be asked to upload the same thing on two different websites, and Ravelry is alot better when it comes to keeping track of everything as well as uploading and updating your projects. Feel free to be-friend me over there, you can find me as LARvonCL.

When that's said, I've actually been doing some quite interesting things over the last 6 months that might interest you guys. I've started a indie dyer company with my good friend Marit. We call ourselves "Ulltøsene" which directly translates into "Wool hussies". We have a webstore that is open for everyone, we do ship internationally but our page is currently only in Norwegian. If you need help to navigate and understand our page then just send us a message and we'll help you out. You can find us at ulltosene.com

Going back to Ravelry for a bit. I've released 5 knit patterns this autumn! 4 pairs of colourwork mittens and 1 pair of socks. You can get them all in my Ravelry design store.

But enough self promotion. All in all, 2017 have been a decent year for me, even though I lost my job and one of my best friends in one go in late April. Thanks to Ulltøsene and my goldsmith workshop, I've been able to kinda live a half decent life. I am currently looking for a new job, but as it turns out, it's harder than you'd think when you live in a tiny town. The unemployment office won't help me out either, so it's a miracle that I haven't fallen into a black hole of depression. But I must admit, I've been close several times. Another reason to push my patterns on Ravelry. You would literally be putting food on my table by buying one or two patterns there and I would be SO greatful <3 I am thinking about making more patterns, but it takes time and I honestly haven't had much spare time before Christmas. I'm in a huge sock mood these days, so I really should be designing socks until my face turnes blue!

In other news, I purchased a second hand spinning wheel in May! I am absolutely in love with it! I'm far from an experienced spinner yet, but I am learning and I've managed to create some awesome yarn so far! For anyone interested, it's a Louet S11 Julia and I love her so much! I've actually started to paint the wheel on it, and I'm hoping to have it done by March when Marit and I will be going to a spinning conference in Trondheim. So much fun!

Anyway. I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate during wintertimes, and a happy new year!

Writing up this one early just so I know I'll get it done and over with. As many of you might have noticed, my activity on dA has dropped this year. I've been lazy with uploading and haven't been able to keep up with everything, and it's equal parts lazyness and "I do not have time to do this now" sort of thing.

If you're interested in keeping  up with me, I post way more often on Instagram. You can find me under LARvonCL, feel free to give me an add, I post way more things than just knitting so you can keep up on me on a more personal level than on here.

As you might have noticed, I've lost my core membership so I won't be doing the New Years Cavalcade this year, I kept all my notes in a widget and I can't access it like this, when that's said, I'm not sure if it's worth getting a new membership seeing as I'm not as active anymore.

My group :iconlive-action-crafters: is dead, it's been dead from the start, but now it's dead to the bone. It all depended on the chat, and over the last 2-3 years, just about every member ever has dropped out, which I understand and I've given up on forcing it anymore. There's even still people whom haven't finished their parts in certain group events we had, and I've honestly given up on that too, it was more time and money wasted than it was worth, atleast on my end. The last couple of months, I haven't even been able to access the group chat for some reason, so I can't be bothered. Not to mention that I was alone in there most of the time for the last year anyway, it got really depressing. Doesn't really help the creativity when there's noone around to play off of.

But enough of the negativity! Let's try to focus on the positive and productive side of everything! This year has been really busy for me with knitting. I've been trying to upload as much as possible of the things I've missed these last few days. With Christmas and everything, some things just naturally get left out. I've still got a few items that needs to be uploaded, and there's some things I've forgotten to photograph before it was given away. I will try to get everything sorted out for the new year atleast. I love starting with blank pages.

I've decided that 2017 shall be a storeage and scrap yarn year (not to mention that I've said for several months that I want it to be a sock year). I will try to refrain from buying too much new yarn, although I can't hold on to that promise too hard around sales and yarn festivals. There will be atleast two festivals, and I tend to loose myself a bit on them... You have been warned. But unless I really NEED yarn and I don't have a substitute in my storeage, or if I run out in the middle of a project, I'm gonna try to refrain from buying more.

My yarn bank is still going strong! I've not yet opened it and I keep putting 10-20NOK on it for each skein I completely finish off...might be the only thing I've been able to kee up with all year actually... I recommend you to try the same! For every full skein you finish, put some pre-set amount of money on a sealed piggy bank so you won't get tempted to use it. I've used it for a year now and I've got a feeling that there's over 1500NOK ($173 €165 £141) on there already. I'm not sure WHEN I'm going to open it, but at this point, I don't want to open it for a few more years. I've seen several people over here do the same, but they count up all the yarn lables at the end of the year and set off an amount of money accordingly. I feel my way is "less expencive"...you don't really notice the money you put on it. I've also got another piggy bank where I put all my change, and I've been contemplating combining the two in some way, or start using the money from that one to put on the yarn bank since that one isn't sealed... But you could always use your change for the yarn bank instead if you're not confident in using as much money per skein as I am.

And I think I should stop rambling now. I hope you've had a good Christmas time, I know I had (except for some family drama, but we don't need to tear into that), and I hope that 2017 will bring all of you joy and happiness! Let's all make it OUR year!

See you all later!

Finally, 2015 is over! I feel like it's been very messy for me when it comes to documenting everything. I completely stopped blogging, I fell behind on uploading finished projects, and my yarn counter has a huge backlog.

2016 will have different goals, and I will stop the yarn storeage counting, I just couldn't keep up... A different thing I will start doing though, is to put money in a hermetically sealed moneybank for every skein I finish. 5NOK for every 50g skein and 10NOK for every 100g skein. I've been thinking about doing this earlier, but without a job, it didn't really work out that well, seeing how much I actually knit. I can afford it now, so I will make it happend, and my mother gave me a moneybank that I can use for it, so this will be awesome! Put in your guesses on how much it'll be at the end of this year!

But here's a recap of 2015, enjoy!

There! I've finally gotten around to work up the pattern for the fair-isle selbumittens I posted last week. The pattern will be available for purchase on Ravelry in both norwegian and english.

Figured it was about time I made this little journal for you guys. I've been hinting to my life changing drastically recently...for the better mind you, but it still came with a loss.

The thing is, I've got a job! Not only that, but I've moved and broken up with my boyfriend of 5 years. You can say that everything happened at once, and it really did! It took me just over a week. Let's start from the beginning...

Late in July, I ran into the woman that runs the new, small yarn shop in my hometown, she more or less gave me a job on the spot! Though, I was in the middle of vacation and stuff, my cousin got married the day before and my mother, aunt and me was going for a "girls only" vacation the following week, it's a new tradition we've started... But yeah, it came on really sudden and I was told to finish up my vacation and get stuff ready before I got to work.
So I spent a few days pondering everything in solitude...with my mother and aunt... And really, I had no other choice but to pack my stuff and move back home, because I NEEDED this job! After three years without having a job at all, saying no to the job of my dreams would be a fool's choice.

But now came the hardest part... My boyfriend didn't want to move to my home town... He's a city boy, and I came from a smaller mountain town, far away from any city and therefor couldn't stand cities at all... I lived in Oslo, the capitol of Norway for two years, and it broke me, I knew that him living in a small town would break him.

We ended up splitting up while staying friends. Neither of us wanted a long distance relationship, and the way we've been living the last 2-3 years, our relationship was closer to friends than a romantic one anyway. We had no future.
I spent two days packing up my yarn, clothes and some of my more sentimental pieces around the appartment. I've still got all of my games and my whole workshop left, so I'm barely half done with everything... But since I'm now living in the basement of my childhood home with my parents, I'm limited with the storage space... My now biggest challenge is to earn enough to support myself living in an appartment. Not to mention that I've got a cat, so that limits my options even further... But I'm trying to stay as positive as I can.

My job really is a dream! My yarn knowledge and pattern understanding seems to be greater than I thought, and I've yet to face a customer challenge that I can't solve! Just today, I had to pick out patterns and colours for 5 different cardigans/sweaters for a costumer!
I've been moving yarns around, cleaning up the shop and shelfs, stocking up on more yarn, buttons, knitting needles, hooks, patterns and whatnot.

We've even been talking about me getting my workbench in here to start up with more repairs of jewelleries! The previous goldsmith that had a store in this town recently had to quit because she had to take over the family buisness for her old and sick mother, and it seems that everybody's eager for me to start up on my own. I just need to get everything in order and take the leap of faith...

Things works out in the end for good girl. So right now, I'm enjoying the single life along with my cat Pepsi in a world between yarn and mountains!
