Oppdal traditional fair-isle sweater

Description

Not the best pictures on this one... All my camera's ran out of battery and I had a horrible photographer.

So, here in Norway, just about every place have their own sweater and or cardigan pattern. This one here is the one from my home town...except for some hand embrodired cuffs and necklining. I wanted a more modern fit and also, I can't embrodier worth sh*t, so I took the charts and worked them into a whole new sweater.

Without a clear pattern for this sweater, I had to rework several areas a handful of times to get it how I wanted. A good example is the yoke. I started out with a traditional raglan type, but it felt too messy and it broke with the straight lines of the main chart.
After a few frogs and a lot of swearing later, I came up with this version where I only did increases on the sleeves. It still breaks the lines, but it's not nearly as noticeable.
I would have done a traditional sewn in sleeves kind of fit, but my sewing machine doesn't work, and it's superwash treated wool so crochet steeking does not work.

The top part of the shoulders came out really messy. To give you an idea, before heavy ironing, it looked like I had poofy 80's shoulder pads! It did however calm down and fall into place though, but I was afraid that I would have to redo it AGAIN.

A quick history about this sweater pattern:
It was designed in 1964 by Solveig Gunnes for Oppdal Curlingklubb whom represented Norway in the World Championship of curling the same year. Apparently they ended up in last place, but the mood was still on top.
In later years, this sweater along with other traditional sweater and cardigans have become a more formal type of wear. Which is why I wanted a more everyday version.
