Description

Yes, it is me in the picture.
This is the seond Marius tunic I've made so far. For those of you whom doesn't know, Marius is the name of the fair-isle pattern around the chest, and it's a national treasure and a big part of our knitting tradition here in Norway. The last year, this pattern has become very popular once again here in Norway, and in the summer of 2012, they released a book with patterns for clothing with it. It's an amazing an beautiful pattern made by the knitter Unn Søiland in 1953 for a Norwegian comedy movie called "Troll i ord" which is a term we use here, almost like "be careful what you say, it might come true".
The main actor in this movie, and also one of the persons wearing the first sweater with this pattern, was Marius Eriksen, and that's where the pattern got it's name.

I started this dress when I was home at my parents house, christmas 2012. I brought my own green tunic [link] and used it for family dinners. It is my mom that thought me to knit when I was 4 years old or so, and she was so delighted to see my work that she asked if I wanted to make one for her aswell. My mother could ofcourse have knitted one for herself, but she has tendinosis in both of her hands after years and years working as a hairdresser, so I told her, that if she could buy me the yarn, I'll knit one for her for free.

EDIT 06.02.13: My mom sent me this picture after reciving the tunic in the mail. It looks much better on her than it does on me! [link]

Great work! And it's also interesting to learn the history of this pattern!
