Description

Detailed title is detailed!

Woho! This sweater was long overdue! I promised my boyfriend a Marius sweater last year but I never finished it... I actually ended up frogging it twice since then! So this was the third time starting it, and I finally finished it. I was supposed to do a traditional Marius sweater with sewn in sleeves, but my sewing machine couldn't handle it, so I ended up doing it in raglan instead. So far I've only seen Marius with raglan once, and there's no real pattern for it as far as I know...but they are publishing a new book with new patterns this month, so there might be one there.

This is my second Marius sweater this autumn, fourth one this year in total, and I might be able to fit one more in before the year is over.

For those of you whom do not know, Marius is the name of the fair-isle pattern around the chest, it has become a national treasure and a big part of our knitting tradition here in Norway. For the last few years, this pattern again became very popular over here in Norway and it has now been printed on everything and everyone wants a sweater, whether it's kids or grown ups, the original sweater, the round yoke version, traditional colours (navy blue, white and red) or more untraditional colours. In 2012, they released a whole book full of knitting patterns for this fair-isle and it contains all kinds of clothing to household objects to furniture. It's an amazing and beautiful pattern made by the knitter Unn Søiland in 1953 for a Norwegian comedy movie called "Troll i ord" which is a term we use here. The best translation for it would mean "be careful what you say, it might come true". The main actor in this movie, and also one of the persons wearing the first ever sweater with this pattern, was Marius Eriksen, and that's how the pattern got its name.

I've made several other Marius sweaters (and there's more to come) so please check out my gallery for more!

Very Beautiful!  I'm glad you could finally finish it!
I have promised my husband (in fact I think he asked me before we were even married and I said SURE and we bought the yarn...lol) socks and a sweater... the sweater is still pending and I'm working on the socks!  I got a sock loom because I'm so inept with knitting and so far so good!  I'm so excited! :D

ANYWAY beautiful work as always!!!
I especially like the darker blue with the lighter blue!
