Description

Even tho this is for the april contest at :iconknitting-and-crochet: with the theme "vintage", it fits more into the theme "nostalgia shock" (even tho that's not even a contest theme).

I really had no idea what to do for this contest... I was thinking clothing clothing clothing...but all the vintage clothing I knew off wouldn't really feel vintage enough, so I had to dig deeper!
I came across this pattern I've saved from Ravelry some time ago, "vintage rabbit", and it hit me like a ton of bricks! I should make a vintage rabbit, but dressed as the loveable childhood character Peter Rabbit!
So I dug out some single skeins of super soft alpaca and wool which had the closest colors to Peter Rabbit, and I started knitting. After two days or so, I sewed him up, knitted a tail that fitted the pattern more (the pattern asked for a simple pom pom) and stuffed him. I was depating on putting eyes on him or not, but I ended up doing so in the end. Sadly the jacket is a bit too light in the colors, but that's ok. Thanks to =Brookette whom sent me a bunch of buttons, I could actually add buttons to his jacket as well! In the story it sais that his blue jacket has four brass buttons on it, but I only had three brass colored ones. He even got pockets in his jacket! And yes, you can put things in them.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this little fella, he looks like a plushie straight out from the 50's. It really gave me a nostalgia shock cause my mother just bought me the collected story book of Beatrix Potter during Easter weekend. I grew up with the animated cartoons on VHS that my father bought for me, and it's been long forgotten for sevral years until this book came up. So everything with this contest was like ment to be!
Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated the story on Peter Rabbit in 1902, so it's indeed vintage, on the brim of atique actually!
